Journal of the Transportation Research Forum

Editorial policy, submission guidelines, peer review process, and journal history.

Journal History

1961–1986

JTRF traces its origins to 1961. For its first 25 years, it contained the proceedings of the Annual meetings of the American and Canadian sections of the Transportation Research Forum.

1987

JTRF became a formal refereed academic journal, establishing its identity as a rigorous, peer-reviewed publication in transportation economics and policy.

2000–2003

JTRF was co-published with the Eno Foundation's Transportation Quarterly. Outside of this period, JTRF was produced, published, and distributed independently by the Transportation Research Forum until 2017.

2018 – Present

As of January 2018, JTRF comprises its own complete volume within the Research in Transportation Economics (RETREC) journal series published by Elsevier. JTRF maintains its own title and volume numbering within RETREC. While formally assembled into a yearly volume, accepted papers are available online on an ongoing basis prior to annual compilation. JTRF seeks submissions on a continuous basis.

Editorial Policy

JTRF has always focused on the economics and business aspects of all modes of transportation, giving equal emphasis to both freight and passenger transportation. The journal has a strong emphasis on the effects of regulation and public policy, and a strong history of analyzing the transportation of agricultural commodities. Historically, the journal — like TRF — has concentrated on transportation problems on the North American continent.
